One of the hardest challenges getting fit poses can often be getting started and working out a plan of action. Not everyone wants to or can afford a personal trainer, and a lot of people prefer to do things in their own way. That’s perfectly fine, but it would be quite inspirational to many of us to look to some professionals for advice. By looking at model athletes’ fitness regimes, we can also gain strong motivation to succeed. Let’s take a look at two of the fittest sports stars in the world and see what they do for fitness.
Zlatan Ibrahimović
Footballer Zlatan Ibrahimović is 35 years old but he is still very much at the top of his game. The Manchester United forward is defying the odds when it comes to footballing fitness, as a lot of players will wind down and think about retiring once they are in their early thirties. Zlatan compares himself to a lion, though, and believes he will still be playing at the age of 40.
Zlatan primarily focuses on gym work to maintain his formidable physique. Exercises include deadlifts, high bar box squats, split stance push presses, bench press throws, overhand grip pull-ups, and weighted floor wipers. He also spends a lot of time building strength and stamina with cardio work on the treadmill (see video above).
Serena Williams
Serena Williams is the most successful female tennis player of all time, and with 23 Grand Slam titles to her name she has been described by many as the greatest athlete ever to have played the game. Williams is also 35 years of age, but doesn’t look to be slowing down anytime soon. She won Wimbledon last year, and already claimed her first Grand Slam of 2017 at the Australian Open earlier this year. She is the to win the French Open when it starts in a couple of months. This illustrious career is thanks to an intense fitness routine that enables her to constantly compete at the highest levels.
In terms of actual workout routines, Williams likes to mix things up from day to day. Her cardio work varies between running, cycling, elliptical and dancing (see video above). She also does a lot of on-field sprinting to work on stamina and improve her reaction times and agility. In addition to that she swims to strengthen her back and lungs, and focuses on a core workout in the gym.
Looking at the achievements and physical shape of these stunning athletes should be enough to fill anyone with inspiration. Their hard work and dedication have led them to master their fields, and there is no reason why anyone can’t follow a similar path. And it’s not all grueling fitness sessions; Williams has even confessed to pigging out on some Southern cuisine from time to time!
