Alana Franke is a wonderful friend of mine. We’ve been friends for almost 10 years. Earlier this year she posted on her facebook page, “Headed to Houston for an emergency surgery on the twins. Please pray for them.” My heart was broken and many prayers were prayed that day. Alana discovered at 17 weeks gestation that the boys had Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome. It occurs in identical twin pregnancies, when one twin gives the other twin all of the nutrition. If left untreated, 98% of babies with Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome will not survive. During an ultrasound, doctors rushed in to tell Alana and her husband Jarrid the boys needed surgery right away. They couldn’t wait another day. Immediately, the couple was rushed to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. A successful laser procedure done in utero corrected the boys situation.
