Have you noticed your hair tends to be drier during the winter? Why? Cooler temperatures leave hair feeling and looking dry because of the lack of moisture in the air. Your scalp is also left with fewer natural oils, making your hair thirsty and prone to breakage. We’ve had two weeks of unseasonably cold, dry weather. I scheduled family pictures on a frigid day but the cold weather wasn’t the frightening factor facing the pictures, my unruly, dry hair was. I knew I had to defy my dry winter hair. I grabbed my bottle of Kalea Rose Argania Tree Hair Oil and prayed for a miracle. I squeezed three drops of the oil into my hands and gently worked the Argania Tree Hair Oil from my roots to ends. I air dried my hair and applied my make-up. As my hair dried I felt how soft it had become. The Argania Tree Hair Oil was magic! When my noticeably smoother hair dried, I styled it and ran out for [...]

It didn’t look anything like the dry, brittle mess it was a few hours earlier. I should have known I would love another Kalea Rose hair product.

After a torturous morning of mowing my gigantic yard, I decided to try my sample of Dove Intense Damage Therapy Conditioner. My long hair was full of grass, bugs, sunscreen and sweat. A great combination of destroying elements to test the conditioner. Usually, I use shampoo and conditioners for color-treated hair. But with all the fun of summer, comes the dryness of the sun, pool and beach. My ends tend to get a little dry, but luckily I do not suffer from too much frizz. After scrubbing my hair clean from the yard debris, I opened my little sample with my teeth. I don’t suggest you do that, it tastes awful. The conditioner smells wonderful from the moment you open it. It is a pleasant scent, not overly sweet. My hair was easy to comb out after my shower. After letting it air dry, my hair is soft and the ends appear to be smooth. And it still smells great! I would use Dove Intense Damage Therapy Conditioner once or twice-a-week. I will continue to use shampoo for color-treated hair, because my red hair tends to fade fast. If you want a conditioner that smells great, eliminates frizzy ends and [...]

The holidays are here and that means one thing, dry Winter weather. Winter weather dries out your skin, eyes, lips and hair. Why? Because the air lacks moisture. I live in Florida where it is humid. As soon as Winter rolls around, there is a noticeable change in the air. A lack of moisture leads to dry, brittle hair. Your scalp has fewer natural oils, making your hair thirsty and prone to breakage. So what can you do? Maintaining healthy, shiny hair begins with a good trim. Keeping your ends trimmed and split end free will reduce breakage. You should have your hair trimmed at least every eight weeks. Purchase shampoo and conditioner for dry hair or extra moisturizing formulas. When rinsing your hair, use cold water. By using cold water, you help your hair lock-in moisture. When you comb your hair after a shower, use a wide-toothed comb. Using this comb instead of a brush is a gentler way of removing tangles. Comb from bottom of your hair to the top of your head. Skip-a-day washing your hair. Washing your hair every other day is plenty. When you shampoo daily, you strip your hair of its natural oils. Concealing [...]

Concealing oily hair by skipping a wash can be difficult. You can use baby powder as a dry clean. To use, sprinkle a small amount of powder onto your scalp. Remove the powder by simply combing it off.

Or you can always braid your hair, put on your favorite scarf or throw on that new hat you’re dying to wear. Try to avoid ponytails, when you pull your hair to tighten the band, you are breaking your hair.

Limit your use of curling irons, flat irons and hair dryers. Excess heat will defeat your hair.

One of my favorite hair thirst quenchers is beer. Use a light beer for blondes, amber brews for auburn shades and regular ‘ol beer for brunettes. Pour an entire bottle on your head and wrap your hair in a towel for thirty minutes.

When the thirty minutes are up, wash your hair as usual. The hops and wheat in beer are great for your hair. Your hair will drink it up!

Cheers to healthy, shiny hair.
